Donor establishes endowment to support Kennesaw State competition teams, Honors students

Longtime Technical Manager Jim J. Hills has always been a firm believer that competition breeds ingenuity. While studying at the former Southern Technical Institute, now Kennesaw State University, he regularly competed in the college’s famed bathtub races, where he honed his engineering skills building motorized tubs he then raced against his classmates. Now, he and his wife Wanda aim to inspire the next generation of engineers through a $1 million endowment, the largest single gift in the history of KSU’s Southern Polytechnic College of Engineering and Engineering Technology (SPCEET), providing support for KSU competition teams and scholarships for engineering students in the University’s Keeping Sights Upward (KSU) Journey Honors College.

Kennesaw State sees leap in summer enrollment

In what has been a record-breaking year for enrollment, more than 20,300 have enrolled in the Summer 2021 semester at Kennesaw State University, with graduate programs seeing a nearly 9 percent increase since last year.

Southern Polytechnic State University Alumni Society invites alumni to come home

It’s been six years since Southern Polytechnic and Kennesaw State joined forces to create Georgia’s second-largest university. The consolidation of the two schools created a total alumni base of nearly 130,000 living graduates. In recognition of the history, legacy and traditions that were an integral part of SPSU, the Kennesaw State University Alumni Association has chartered the Southern Polytechnic State University Alumni Society (SPSUAS).

Kennesaw State student finds passion for research, extracurriculars through engineering college

When it comes to describing Kennesaw State University student George Williams, engineering professors Simin Nasseri and Mohammad Jonaidi find themselves rattling off a lengthy list of accomplishments. While serving as president of the KSU Motorsports student organization, Williams has carved out a niche for research in two departments within the Southern Polytechnic College of Engineering and Engineering Technology, co-authoring numerous journal papers and conference presentations. He also held two internships, one at industrial controls company Rovisys and another at Compass Technology Group, which specializes in electromagnetic high-frequency measurement. In his free time, he uses his technical writing skills to flex his creative muscle, writing science fiction novels.

Kennesaw State undergraduate student pursues Ph.D. following internship with NASA

Kennesaw State University student Ryan Foster has long been fascinated with airplanes and rockets. His passion for aerospace engineering is what guided him to an internship at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) last fall, and is ultimately what led this undergraduate student to being accepted into a highly competitive Ph.D. program. However, his recent successes are just the latest in a long list of academic achievements at Kennesaw State. A standout in the Southern Polytechnic College of Engineering and Engineering Technology, Foster is graduating this month with a degree in mechanical engineering and a minor in aerospace engineering.

Kennesaw State graduate primed for future in aerospace industry

Two years ago, Kennesaw State University student Kristen Padgett couldn’t fully envision herself as an engineer. Then a sophomore in the Southern Polytechnic College of Engineering and Engineering Technology (SPCEET), she was admittedly a bit insecure about the prospects of joining an industry where change was the only constant. That is, until she landed her first internship. “To me, internships represent a major pivot point in my college career because it provided a great deal of perspective and allowed me to carve out my niche in engineering,” said Padgett, who graduates this month with a 4.0 GPA and a bachelor’s degree in industrial and systems engineering

Kennesaw State Scholarship Endowment to Benefit Students Facing Homelessness, Food Insecurity

In life, Ellen Long constantly supported others, whether it was by introducing more women to the field of engineering, providing much-needed support to students experiencing homelessness or mentoring women early in their careers. Today, her legacy continues through the Ellen Long Honors CARE Engineering Scholarship Endowment, established by Shepherd “Shep” Long to honor his late wife. The scholarship benefits students in Kennesaw State University’s Keeping Sights Upward (KSU) Journey Honors College who demonstrate acute financial need.

Kennesaw State University engineering team places second in national competition

A Kennesaw State University mechanical engineering team placed second overall in the Fluid Power Vehicle Challenge, a nationwide competition hosted virtually by the National Fluid Power Association (NFPA) and Danfoss Power Solutions earlier this month.

Kennesaw State students find continued success in Coca-Cola Scholarship program

Prior to enrolling at Kennesaw State University, first-generation student Kamille Suarez-Paulino said there were few people who could offer guidance for her college career. Now a third-year student in The Coca-Cola First Generation and Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Scholars program, the economics major wears her first-generation status as a badge of pride. Suarez-Paulino is one of 35 students who have benefited from the program made possible by a $1.25 million donation from The Coca-Cola Foundation.
